StemCyte has one of the most accredited and licensed cord blood banks in the world.
External accreditation agencies and registries have recognized StemCyte International Cord Blood Center's high quality and standards. In addition, we are proud to have an outstanding HLA typing laboratory within our center to help provide rapid tissue typing response to urgent transplant hospital needs.

AABB (formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks)

StemCyte received its initial accreditation under the AABB 1st edition of the Cord Blood Standards on July 2, 2002 and currently is accredited under the 1st edition of the Standards for Cellular Therapy Services. The AABB is known throughout the world for its comprehensive standards for blood banks, transfusion services, and now for cellular therapy laboratories, including cord blood banks.

Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT)

StemCyte was honored in April 2006 to have FACT award our US laboratory their prestigious FACT accreditation. StemCyte met the criteria for cord blood collection, processing, testing, banking, selection and release of units and is the only cord blood bank in the world to be accredited by FACT for autologous donations. FACT believes that a valid accreditation must encompass both clinical and laboratory aspects. For this reason, they have established standards for high quality medical and laboratory practices.

National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), Member

The NMDP is by far the largest and most prestigious bone marrow and stem cell registry in the United States. Membership as a NMDP Cord Blood Bank requires a rigorous accreditation process that takes several months.

Potential member banks follow NMDP's stringent regulations and are subjected to an intensive inspection process lasting several days. Every aspect of the cord blood bank is examined.
Since its accreditation in December 2001, the StemCyte International Cord Blood Center has been under NMDP's Investigational New Drug Application with the FDA for Umbilical Cord Blood Products. StemCyte is one of the two largest cord blood stem cell banks in the NMDP network.

College of American Pathologists (CAP)

StemCyte International Cord Blood Center earned CAP accreditation in July 2002. CAP is the most respected accreditation agency for clinical laboratories. StemCyte is one of the few cord blood banks that performs many of its own tests and tissue typings (required for unrelated transplants). StemCyte Clinical Laboratory subscribes to CAP's rigorous External Proficiency Program.

Biologics License and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA)

The two prerequisites for cord blood bank operation in the California and U.S. include a valid California Biologics License and CLIA Registration with the Department of Health and Human Services. Both require rigorous application and thorough inspection prior to approval.

American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI)

StemCyte International Cord Blood Center received full accreditation from ASHI, the most prestigious and rigorous accreditation agency for Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) Tissue Typing. Accurate HLA tissue typing and matching is critical for success in cord blood transplantation.

StemCyte International Cord Blood is licensed in the states of California, New York, New Jersey and Maryland and is authorized to operate in all 50 states.

This is an especially exciting time for medicine as now more and more transplant centers are using cord blood for both children and adult transplantations.
